17821x - 8/18/2013 15:05...The last couple pics are of the CRP ground I was asking about this week. Debating whether to bale on October 1st when it expires or just spray it. Not the tallest but it sure is clean. It will be no-tilled to corn next spring. Cattle look great. The red/white looks good. 7/8 Simmi and 1/8 Herf? I guess the red genes just lined up. Weren't most Simmis red at one time before we got into this they-have-to-be-black thing? Seems to be some of that old Simmi red coming out on the other mostly BWF in your pics. Once I get to my target number of straight Hereford cows I am probably going to try a black Simmi bull on my commercial Herefords to make some BWF and see what I get. As far as the CRP, I would mow it high, maybe 4" high to leave some stubble to hold the soil until spring, and bale the rest. Spraying it as is this fall may leave a thick layer that doesn't dry out in the spring. If you spring trip tilled that would be another option. But for our slopes and pure notilling in the spring you want to strike a balance between leaving some residue and being able to get the corn in come spring. Maybe spray your burndown on the stubble some time after baling. Thanks for the pics. Jim
