New Mexico
" experts" say it takes 78 / 22 splits for things to work for the operator.

kinda depends on calf price. MO.

big diff in $900 to $1,000 calves vs $650 to $750 calves.
Might be best to work up a slide price to split deal??

Keep in mind the $850 to $1,100 cows generally raise as much or more calf than those high dollar $1,500 to $2,000 kinda cows.

Also most ANY color cow will raise a black calf ( and most are bred to black bulls anyway ).

Granted the SW has relatively cheap cattle ( especially cows and pairs ) due to the dry this year.
