Seriously? They make a cleaner and a tool that makes cleaning a smooth top a snap. Call me crazy but I would rather clean a smooth top than scrub burnt on food off of heat coils and then clean the mess underneath. Oh yes, lining the pans works great if you want it to look good for a couple of days. Mostly it will look like you are stuck in the 70's or 80's. I would venture to guess that in the near future the only kind of electric you will be able to buy is a smooth top.
