There are knotters out there that don't leave behind tailings, but they're rare. About the only time tailings are a problem are for some people who don't like feeding their horses little bits of plastic. They make sisal twine which eliminates this problem (by being edible), but it's not worth the hassle of dealing with such ragged twine.
