Many of the older tractors had a roller to support the drawbar and give a rolling friction instead of sliding steel on steel.
The old Versatiles of the 60's-70's had a 4X4 wood block between the drawbar and slide. Every few years the wood wore out and you had to saw off another chunk of 4X4 to replace it. ;)
