Subject: Need ideas for keeping tabs on autistic child

Scranton
For starters, I have three kids...two boys aged 13 and 10, and a daughter aged 7, almost 8, who is autistic. She can communicate when SHE wants to or wants something, but if you are looking for her, she won't necessarily come or answer when called.

We live on a dead end road with no neighbors within a half mile or more. No major highways or traffic anywhere near.

Lately, our daughte has gotten the notion to take off running....usually to a group of trees a half mile away, but one time she showed up at our neighbors the other direction. She is stealthy and can slip out if someone drops their guard for even a minute or two. She isn't trying to be stealthy, its all about timing....when she decides to go, she goes.

This morning we awoke at 7 am to find her already gone...first time she's done that.

We need a way to know where she is at all times. Ideally, it would be something that could be surgically placed under her skin and trackable with GPS...can't really find anything like that. Next would be bracelet, but it would have to lock on her and not be removeable, but be able to get wet.

We've thought about locks on our doors, but it would have to be something other kids could figure out in case of a fire...plus we have four doors going outside.

We've thought about alarms on doors, but it would have to be loud enough for the entire house to hear, which would cause problems for times when people come and go late.

Any ideas....this really stresses me out.
