We tend to overdose lime and fertilizer as an industry.

Obviously you are better off with one ton a year notill until you get the change you are seeking.

If that isn't going to happen, plan B could actually work pretty well.

Over half the samples I have taken since 1963 needed calcium, we tend to have too much magnesium east of the Mississippi and much ground west of it. Lot's of 6 pH "it's OK" samples need a ton of calcium on it like you describe.

This is my number one observation in 50 years of farming. We tend to over nitrate our ground and underfeed everything else. Ca is the King and Queen of nutrients because of the lack of oxygen in our soils. The SAP tests I saw in December at Farm to Plate just verified that in my mind.
