Subject: Lime benefit vs. no-till benefit

So here's a "which is better" question....

I have a field which has been in sort of a "min-till" situation for years. Some years its tilled, some years its not. I may be surprised and be wrong, but I suspect that a portion if not all of this ground would stand to have a substantial amount of lime right out of the gate. The creek on one edge of this place and a ditch that runs down the middle of it make me want to at least make an attempt at no-till on this piece.

What's your opinion? Would I be better off to chisel in 3-3.5 tons of lime in one shot or would I be better served going no-till straight out and going with 1 ton a year and bringing into condition a little slower? Friend of mine said that in his opinion, there is a lot of ground that goes into no-till that really isn't in proper condition to go into no-till.

I've got no samples of this ground, won't be this years production for me, just been mulling this over and I'd like some other points of view.
