Subject: RE: Spring wheat questions for Southern MN

central - east central Minnesota -

wylam - 3/29/2013 19:51 I will be planting 40 acres of wheat on some poorer lighter ground. What would be a good variety and what planting rate should I use?

Albert Lea Seed house . . ..
As spring continues to show it head - it could get later. The later the spring, the more consideration you should give to planting a little heavier population. I'd rather plant heavier then rely on tillering at different stages, delying flowering and such.
Generally, the last week of march the first week of april is small grain planting time in my area. It's not going to happen this yr - so I'd be planing on a heavier seeding rate.
Something to consider . .  .
