Coldwater, Michigan | Depending on your soil and the choice of seed placed starter, it can damage the seed. Seed placed starters with any appreciable amount of Urea in it, such as 8-19-3, 9-18-9, and some others, are a setup for damage on light soils unless you are using very low rates. Some of the products on the market with less urea, such as 6-24-6, 3-18-18 can be much safer on the seed than the ones with more urea. While 3-18=18 is one of the lowest salt products, it also has among the lowest amounts of Urea contained in it's makeup.
The enclosed picture shows 5 gallons of 6-24-6 vs 5 gallons of 9-18-9 on the seed in lighter soils. I think you will see a substantial difference.
