I thought of your posts this winter while watching a guy from Nebraska speak about how his notill soil warms up faster than conventional. Would be neat to see a comparison
between the two set up just as you are doing.
I think i know who you are talking about. I think what he says might be right.
Back about 25 to 35 years when we tilled, we could always work up a alfalfa field in the spring before any other type of stubble. I allways wondered why that was. Now i think i know one of the answers. Since the alfalfa field hadn`t been worked for a few years it helped build up soil structure. This made some sort of conduit to let the warmer air deeper in the profile rise up to warm the upper soil so the frost left sooner.
I did a experiment last spring that gave me results that i didn`t expect.
I will go over the data again and report what i found, it is along the same theme as above. |
