In the following charts it compares the air temp with  the temperature at ground level and the 2" deep soil temp under cover of snow. The red line is air temp about 5.5 ft. above ground , the green line is the 2" soil temp and blue line is the ground level temp.
 In the first picture  it shows the setup on 12/10/2012. The white tube in the black circle is where the sensor is for the ground level temp.
 The 2nd pic was taken on 1/17/2013 and third picture on 2/17/2013.
