California/Oregon | We grow grain as certified organic and rotate with organic potatoes and conventional (non-organic) alfalfa. As it takes three years to re-certify and certification takes copious historical paperwork, our planting routine is pretty well planned several years ahead. Also, in our organic operation, weed control, soil maintenance, and crop nutrient levels are often part of a plan a couple years out. That being said, there are times of "adjustment" in the plan but it's important for us to be following a plan fairly close. | |
