Berwick, IL | Whoever said water in whorl...lol...just couldn't really remember what the issue was. Purdue did a study on fungicide applications, I believe in 07, and they had arrested ear syndrome when fungicide with a surfactant was applied with a ground rig a little too early. If they pushed the envelope going slightly pre-tassel to help the sprayer clear the corn they caught the developing ear when it was against the stalk just below the base of the leaf. The crop oil or maybe other surfactants would get funneled down the leaf onto the developing ear and fuse the silks together. Then the silks couldn't grow out at pollination and thats where that term "arrested ear syndrome" came into play regarding fung apps. Moral of story...don't jump the gun on when to apply. Let the silks get out. | |
