Subject: feedlot question

In a different thread, guys were talking about bunk space. Mark Wright said if you're only feeding once per day, you needed more bunk space. This is the opposite of what I would've thought, I would think that feeding twice per day would need more bunk space to make sure the bigger stronger calves don't push to the front and hog more than their share, keeping the smaller calves from getting enough. Seems to me if you were feeding more feed once per day, the bigger calves would get full and go lay down, providing an opportunity for the smaller ones to get all they want at that time. What am I misunderstanding about feeding in bunks? My calves now eat out of a steer stuffer, whenever they want. I'm just trying to understand how it works on a larger scale because I would like to feed more cattle someday.
