Subject: Re: Mildew In Upstairs Window Frame

Too much moisture around the windows, possibly because of the condensation on the glass or the frame.
You need a small air vent at the top of the window (since you probably can't have one in a stone wall) and another vent for air circulation, and some heating/drying in the room would help too.
The second vent could be for instance made just by leaving the door open, or closing it if it has a sufficient gap between the bottom of the door and the floor.

Clorox contains ammonia, which deposits salt and has a tendency to absorb water, so it was probably not a smart move! If you can paint that part of the wall, try to wash the mold with an anti-mold or copper based product, like the one they use on tomatoes/cucumber/grapes, let it dry well with artificial heating (it will become blue from the copper), and paint it with a waterproof paint. Do NOT let the mildew settle, you are indeed breathing millions of spores of it in your sleep, and healthy people can easily get allergy-like sickness from it.

Open the windows every day to aerate, install a ceiling fan because air circulation tend to improve drying out, install a dehumidifier, deposit silicon joint outside over the wooden or metallic frame of the window to insulate it against condensation, wash with sodium bicarbonate, these are all possibilities you can try.

I don't recommend using an anti-mold product like a paint, because they emanate the product in the air as well, so you'd be going from a bad situation to a worse one. Children have died because whatever they put into these products, although I hope regulations are better now. If you use an anti-mold cleaning product, make sure you rinse and dry it well, then paint it with a good waterproof paint to block emanations.

And please repost with your solution once you have worked it out!
