Subject: Re: ? about potassium pills for dogs

Northeast Iowa
My wife is an ER nurse and used to breed dogs. She said it's Vitamin K that will reverse any effects from the poison. It causes blood to clot. K+ is Potassium, which is completely different from Vitamin K. If you give your dog Potassium, it will cause heart problems and can kill your dog. I was at the hospital a couple years ago for some work and everyone freaked out when my blood sample came back with an elevated Potassium level. (Normal is 3.5 to 5.0 or so. Mine was 5.9 and heart trouble can start at 6.0) They admitted me right away and wouldn't let me go home until it was an acceptable level. I felt fine the whole time, but everyone was concerned about V-tach and impending death for me.

So make sure it's Vitamin K you give your dog and NOT Potassium.
