Camp Douglas Wi. 40miles nw of wi. dells
My brother & I have a nice comfortable grain farm with a small 170 head holstein steer feeding opration, last year we brought my son in on the cattle 1/3, Yea its made me push a pencil hard again after years of just feeding because I want my son to make some money, well I have traded calls & puts even done some futures all in corn & beans only years ago, none in cattle, most of the time the broker & the boys at the cbot kept my money. I,ve told my son that some years your going to pay alot for feeders & the fats will go done, then he have years were the feeders will be cheap & the fats will be high, I think in the long haul we make more not useing the cbot. We do foward contract corn, beans & wheat. But we don,t with cattle maybe if we had more cattle we would contract a % of them. Thats how we do it here on this farm, not trying to tell anybody else how to run there farm
