south east Indiana | I too have had nurse cows raising multiple calves. Just depends on how much you want to feed the cows as to how many calves they will raise. I would raise two or three groups of calves per cow. Usually do three the first time then either wean those and go for a another group of two or three or do two more goups if I was feeding the cow well. THe first week of adding calves is the thoughest but after the calves figure things out the cow seemed ok with the additional calves. I just turned them out in a small pasture together. I have even added a calf to beef/dairy cross cows and turned them out to pasture with all the other pairs. The calves always did better than when I was giving them milk replacer and it was tons easier and worked out cheeper. I have had a Jersey raise 6 to 9 calves a year. Can't beat that.
