Subject: RE: more tonnage, we're at about the same price

New Mexico
levels as 1 year ago.
sw tradit cash was 125 last week, and was $125.81cwt week ending 1/20/012.
not many cash cattle traded in the sw.
was 4,100 cash cattle and 74,500 head of convert to formula cattle this week.
( formula pricing is all non reported )

carcass weights were 18 lbs heavier a year ago vs 011, and are now another 23 lbs heavier vs 012.
total fi harvest beef tonnage week of 1/18/013 is 492.9 million lbs, was 483.4 million lbs same frame 012.
total fi tonnage week ending 1/12/013 was 499.1 mill lbs, same frame 012 week was 502.9 million lbs..

just wish we had a little more total economy now to get rid of product easier.
since that is not the case yet, it seems feedlot bargaining position is somewhat compromised because there's not many tradit packers in the usa ( basically 4 cos ).

when there's plenty of tonnage, those folks can tend to be in no hurry to buy em because it's easier to buy em later which strengthens the packer position even more because next week the cattle are once again another 15 to 20 lbs heavier yet.

( kinda like a big beef savings account that produces a lot if interest dividends, lol )
