kyler, you answered your own question when you stated the dairies pay scale plus the fact you are trying to give "bad apples" a chance.with the wage scale you quoted, your help is only making less than half what you are per year and if that is simply not enough for most single guys or gals to make a living on in to days economy.if they have kids or dependents there is no way they can get by on that.it is bad enough trying to keep good honest people working let alone problem people.possessing a valid, current, drivers license, owning a reliable, insured vehicle, being at work on time consistently, passing random drug tests, and no criminal record, is vital to any hiring program and a healthy, successful business.many hog setups here try what you are doing and go through employees like water.some help lasts a few days ,some 6 weeks, and some only as long as it takes to find a "better, higher paying,or less work," job somewhere else...we always joke that the day we see young, busty, sexy looking,bikini-clad, girls applying for our jobs, then we are either the best employers ever and/or paying too much,lol...poor wages are a problem through the whole job sector and even more so in ag related jobs.start with good people, higher wages, good benefits, insurance, and a fair honest profit sharing system and you will start to get and keep good help, imo.
