In a rice field compaction is a good thing, helps maintain a flood. Snakes, a few but not a reason for rolling, the roller has just been nick-named a snake killer. Soil is clay based. Boothill is about as far north as rice production goes. Field tile is a no-no, in fact you would have to use an excavator every inch of the way in rice country to bury tile. Rice is a flood irrigated crop. Pivots are few and far between.
