frederick, MD | I feel our milk quality is pretty good. Scc runs between 175000 and 225000 average for the past 6 mo. PI, Bacteria and all that other stuff is never a problem. Normally have about 1 to 2 percent of the herd treated for clinical mastitis at any time.
My coop offers 1.55 dollars per hundred under 100 k scc. I want that money. Anyone have any tips to help us get there. I am trying to make up a plan of action to implement here after the first of the year. Here are my ideas.
Have somone clean out freestalls in between milkings, so they would be cleaned 4 times a day instead of 2
Install a dip foamer. We demoed one I i really like the coverage with it, and how you really gotta work to get all the dip off. Plus it saves dip.
Start a employee incentive program for milk quality. I dont know how to do it. I am thinking it should be a tiered program. The better we do the more they get. Maybe 50 dollars a month with scc under 175000 and 100 dollars a month under 100000 scc
Make the milkers look at every teat end to make sure its clean.
