Where does a work ethic come from.... especially in today's US society?

Here is an interesting thing I bookmarked a while ago on the topic.

We are the ones responsible for either improving or losing a hard work ethic in our families. I am not one to talk since the jury is still out on a few of my kids - but they are showing signs of coming along. ;)
