| I was going to post the same thoughts as you. I'd watch the kids and see what brush they are using, how hard they are brushing and if it's any one spot that seems to be more sensitive. I wonder if they aren't using a cattle curry as a brush and being too aggressive with it. If you don't see any pattern or reason, then default to the beatings. Just start by looking for a reason, I'm sure there is one if you look long enough.
