TX | Everyone has their own numbers. Not trying to start a fight here but if you are feeding hay to your cows 6 months out of the year you may be overstocked. I agree with many of the above posters, the reason many cows are leaving isn't necessarily because the cows aren't profitable it's because grain is more profitable. We run a small cowherd and also have a feedlot. We buy most of our feedlot calves straight off the farm, so we talk to a lot of cattlemen in our area. Most of them are making good money from the cows. Pasture in my area that is large enough to run 20 or more cows is in high demand. | |
