The oceans keep rising a few millimeters every year.
I don't remember the data but I think it was about half from melting ice and underground reservoirs depletion, and half from thermal expansion, because of global warming affecting the oceans too. Oceans and seas make up about two thirds of our blue planet, so it can absorb quite a large volume before the rise starts to be significant, but the melting of the ice in the polar caps and Greenland would make the water rise several meters. A recent report announced an increase of 7°F/4°C by 2060, the Mayans got it wrong! | |
