I would say that was just a LITTLe bit too early. I planted the earliest I ever have starting Sept 30 and I don't have that kind of growth. In fact I am amazed my late Oct wheat is catching up to it.

If I planted that early and it looks that ragged, I would consider it was probably a good cover crop and go to another crop next spring. If wheat is ten bucks and I can get some yield out of it, I might keep it.

I have never mowed down wheat so I don't have a better remark for you.

Would be interested to see how it turns out!
