| Our biggest issue is October/November. Our capacity is right around 470 cows. In October/November we calved 136 (68 in each month). Only 58 were dried up in those two months so there was quite an imbalance there. So we also removed 68 cows from the herd in those two months. Still lacking some balance there so I sit here today still with a glut of fresh cows. For the year, we've removed over 200 cows from the herd and we're still bursting at the seams.
Last week was getting rid of anything Johne's positive (some were tested positive but still giving >100 lbs/day). Now it's to the point where I need to sell more cows but none really deserve to get their throats cut.
I saw this coming with sexed semen after using it for a few years. We haven't really used any for a few years now.
