North End I-15
It was my understanding that the spring wheat was used to bring up the protein of winter wheat . White wheat used as pastry flour .
Most years the dock or discount for wheat below 14% protein can be severe . Two years ago a local farmer had wheat he sold for feed . Had he delivered it to the elevator , with the discounts for low protein , falling numbers , test weight , he would have had to pay the elevator .50 to take the wheat !
The higher protien is always paid a good premium over 14. Portland grain quotes are always for 14 % . If you have 10 % the discounts can be as much as 1.00$ per point down from 14 .
Years back wheat was quoted as ordinary @ 12 % with premiums up .
Dad once sold wheat for .25 a bushel and recieved an additional .25 for the protien . Of course that was organic wheat in the early 40's
No weed sprays back then.
