It's hard for me to get yeast breads to be sweet without creating a blow-out from the "joyful" yeast.

I wish someone made a bread machine with programmable settings. Best loaf ours ever made was when the power blinked during the final rise. Since the program was scrapped, we pulled it out of the machine and put it in the oven. Perfect loaf, never had one like it again even though we have tried. The bread machine is easy, so we use it, but it could be so much better.

I use a recipe similar to towman's above, but usually use butter splotted into the corner of the vertical bread machine tub instead of shortning. All bread flour results in a 'door stop" loaf. That is one that looks like a door stop, tastes like a door stop and no one will eat, so it's only use would be a door stop. Even go as far as 2 cups all purpose flour to 1 cup bread flour for a very tender loaf that the kids eat hot out of the machine.
