Dallas Center IA 515-720-2463
First off, your 140 with the Cummins has more engine than the 135 with the Herk.

My 2-155 came from Charles City with 18.4 x 38 spin outs.
I knew there were two sets of 20.8 x 38 on double bevel rims over in the set up building. And I wanted 20 points on my new tractor.

So they put the 20 points on the White spin out centers using 2-105 double bevel wedges, eight of them.
The company service man showed up and said they can't do that.
So I got new cast centers. My folks drove to the White warehouse in Omaha to get them.

So I had my 20 points. But no duals the first spring.
Come fall and I wanted duals. So I purchased the take off spin out cast centers that were on my tractor.
And the other set of 20 point take off rims and tires.

But the offset was not right, very little or none on the spin out castings.
There was not enough axle.
So the folks made another trip to Omaha for a second set of 38 wheel castings.

I had my duals, all four on cast centers, with close to new 20 point 38 rubber. Happy farmer.

About 12 years later. Purchased a new to me 12 x 30 row crop cultivator. Lost the first one about 1985.
But this one was just to heavy for the 2-105. And I had been told that big cultivators work best with duals on the tractor.

2-155 was needing tires anyway. Purchased four new 18.4R x 42 tires and the step-up rims.
If you don't know what a step-up is: In this case a 42" rim, but the center drops down to fit the 38" castings.

Four 18.4R-42 were cheaper than four 20.8R-38 tires. But I had to buy the new rims.
The whole deal was $3,300-, of which $800- was the new rims.
I think 20 points would have been about $2800-$2900- then.
Prices have sure gone up. See bottom for 2012 rim prices.

That spring incorping weed dope with the rig in the picture on the first posting. Acres on a tank were well over 10% more than before.
But three things in the 18.4R-42 favor here.

#1- 20 point 38 are not quite as tall as 18.4 - 42 = More speed.
#2- The 20 points were well worn. Reducing the height more. More speed again.
#3- 18.4 were radials, 20 points bias. Lot more speed.
That rig does not pull that hard. So I had the power to be geared faster.

I fully believe 20.8R-38 tires are better pullers than 18.4R-42 tires. Just more rubber on the ground, and comparing new tires to new tires, 20.8-38 are about as tall as 18.4-42.
And 18.4R-38 and way back there in go power.

Something most people don't seem to see. Tall tires raise the tractor drawbar. A higher drawbar pulls down on the rear of a tractor more [stealing the weight from the front]

As the first set of 18.4R-42 got some age I started to have trouble keeping air in them [Armstrong, grand daddy of Titans today]
So I would put one of the old 20 point 38 tire and rims back on.
New 18.4R-42 about 2004 or so.

When I got the Deere 4630, which has 18.4R-38 tires, I removed the 38" rims and tires and put the outer 42" off of the 155 on. This was spraying time. Using the Deere wedges, they fit right on the Deere 38" castings.
Decided against going 42" on the Plant, Spray and Grain Cart tractor, just too much money for a tractor that I have no intention of doing heavy pulling with.

I did buy a set of junkyard 38" 4630 castings. Put them on for duals. Used the 18.4-38 tires and rims off of my burnt 2-105. Again, using the Deere wedges.

From the Abilene Machine catalog, pretty sure new this summer:
Note: I am not endorsing AM or any other supplier. Used their catalog because I have it.

All rims are Double Bevel. Which is what you use with the wedges.

16-38 [for 18.4-38 tire] = $350- ea

18-38 [for 20.8-38] = $390- ea

16-42 Drops to fit 38" cast [for 18.4-42] = $495- ea

If you really want some rubber
18-42 Drops to fit 38" cast = $550- ea For 20 point 42" tire.

In the pic, you may be able to see the drop down rim center, maybe not.
