If it is green it's going to continue to split as it dries, I would probably go with some kind of an oil treatment, tung oil maybe. It will need it more than once as the dry heat is the house will dry the wood at a rapid pace and the faster it dries the more drastic the splitting I would think...................BTW,,it looks great....
