sullivan il.
holstein should be hard fed from 300lbs. on 100 bu corn 400lbs. supp pellet and 1200lbs. gluten pelletes finish at 1300lbs. sell on the rail with a forward contract locked in 125.15 live today for june del. 6.25 basis off the board which was at131.40 i am no cattle man raised with hogs but feed these holsteins like hogs i dont know how these feeders do it with the cost of colored calves and feed. i should add makes all the difference in the world how that holstein steer was started and fed while still on the bottle as to how it will perform. my math 300lb steer 1.30= 390+700 corn+120 supp+120 gluten= 1330 1300 lb steer with oct. 2013 futures close today at 133.9 minus 6.25 basis= 127.65 x 1300= 1659.45 add your own yardage, death loss, interest etc. probly get flamed for all this from you life long cattle feeders i have nothing but the upmost respect for you guys but i do beleive a holstein is a completely different animal the gene pool is very tight with the holsteins thus making their performance very predictable
