Columbia Basin, Ephrata, WA | Having a stable market is at least half the battle. A stable supplier is the other half if you're not farrowing. We had both for a few years and made some good money selling the antibiotic free pigs. They were outdoor farrowed in Canada and we finished them in hoops. Deathloss was not a problem. The economy turned south about the same time our supplier was killed in a plane crash, and now we're exiting the hog business. Last I heard we had less than 50 left.
