SE PA | We had a helicopter demo here for our field day. He had planted a few thousand acres of cover crops this fall. As i understand, airplanes are preferred in areas where they can fly in larger fields but a helicopter is a viable alternative in a situation as you described. They seem to cost more per acre and i've heard of spread pattern problems associated with the "wash" from the rotor. Helicopter's can land right next to the fields and planes require a runway which may or may not be convienient. Below is a picture of the demo.
