Subject: Re: strip till in standing stalks?

Michigan - Saginaw County
I did strip till on about ten acres COC this fall without pre tilling it, and I will see how it looks in the spring. I had to remove the mole knife to do it.

The rest of the ground I shallow disc ripped this year but will wait till spring to strip till.
I don't have precision guidance, just an Outback light bar, which is helpful, but hand steering I am not good enough to stay on top of the strips in the spring after they become almost invisible over the winter. My wandering rows showed it when combining. I'm still on the steep part of the learning curve there.

Certainly, it strip tills a lot easier where it has been lightly worked first as I don't get wads built up under the units - what a pain to go back and level out.
Still aiming to reach the ability to single pass strip till COC behind the combine.
We will see if my homeboy modified Bigham Brothers strip till will do the job next fall without plugging up.

But no matter how tired and dirty and how much back pain I am in, it beats working for a living.
