6030Deere - 11/12/2012 09:30 Around Bedford several guys planted around the 10th of May and it has just now hit 15%. The early corn that was planted in April came off a month ago. That is the situation in SW WI also - for some reason even as dry as the weather has been the corn is just now drying down. Not a whole lot of on-farm drying capacity around here. 10 cents a point at the elevator, if they will even do it in the rush. After 2" of rain yesterday now temps in the 20's it's not likely to dry much more. Trick is to let it dry as much as possible in the field before weather turns. A lot of corn was harvested late last week. Saturday had record high temps before the wet and cold front moved in. Custom combiners have been running hard. Everyone wants their corn harvested at the same time. A post above talks about folks with corn still standing as being "poor managers". I think we need to be careful about making judgements like that driving by on the road. A couple folks I know combining corn on Saturday are very good managers. Jim at Dawn
