At a irrigation convention that the University of Nebraska at Lincoln put on last fall - the evaporation is much more minimal than you can imagine without drops. They help when you have to water on windy days for sure. With that being said, a shorter style drop would suffice. It works much better in tall crops such as corn when speaking of water pattern/even concentration on the ground. From what I have heard the sprinkler package you want is I-WOB. I am converting all of mine to these next season. Search past posts on here about sprinkler packages...
