I didn't say that one should spend all of their time in a tractor just to fulfill the notion of "paying your dues." I think it's a good idea to exit the tractor and install someone else if the work is still getting done right and there's something better to do with one's time. Something just seemed off about a 30 year old replying to a 50+ year old that their dues had been paid.

I think dieseldoc may have just been indicating that he's spent enough time on various jobs to know that tractor work is not his preference. He can correct me if I'm wrong. Otherwise if he has the skills to run both a regular diesel shop and a dairy, it's easy to believe that his time has enough value elsewhere to hire a tractor driver.

The problem is its hard to find help around here. No one wants to work anymore. the ones that do already have a job. I been looking around for an older retired guy that likes to drive tractor. But guys like that are few and far beetween.
