It'll hold till it breaks! Lol I've seen much worse hold for a long time.
Another tip on a repair like that. what you did with the flat plate is a good start but next time drill 2 fairly good sized holes in the plate (on a plate that size I'd go with around 1/2") and put one on each side of the crack, then plug weld them to the metal underneath. It helps tie the top plate into the metal underneath much better than just a perimiter weld.
I would stay away from 7018 rod for awhile. I find its VERY hard to start especially for a beginner. Also its very picky about the metal being clean. |
