IN | grind everything and start at the bottom an do a verticle up. that is, you go back and forth in the shape of a U pausing for a moment at the top of each up stroke. Let it burn in and penetrate at the tops of your U. Also will let the rest of the puddle cool . Hard to do with an AC stick welder but can be done with practice.
as far as the shape of your patch and the placement of your welds, IDK. Others on here do, although I didn't quite follow what they were trying to convey.
