Farmers can see what the Federal Reserve is doing, and are looking for ways to protect themselves from the dollar devaluation. Owning land is similar to owning gold, except that it has the potential for a yearly return. Farmers are on the front lines when it comes to seeing inflation. They realize that the government CPI figures have nothing to do with how prices and costs are actually rising. The US consumer had the benefit of below the cost of production commodities for 30 years, since the mid 1970's. That resulted in under investment in production agriculture. They are now paying the price for their earlier good fortune. No one should think the current good times will last forever, just as on shouldn't think the sun will never rise when you're going through bad times.

I doubt most farmers have any idea what the Federal Reserve is doing. Some have cash and enjoy owning dirt. Others are caught up in the current euphoria and enjoy owning dirt.

The Consumer Price Index and Ferdeal Reserve do not enter into the thinking process at all.

This is flat out not the case, based on the farmers I know.
