Yes, Id say the motor could be smaller - up to the point that it really isn't necessary at all. There is really no sense in moving the steering wheel at all if all it does is make pulses that the tractor translates and acts on.

I believe the Trimble box for this tractor hooks directly to the tractor's CANBus. Program the tractor computers and tell them about the box and to pay attention to it and you're set. I doubt that the steering wheel moves at all when using the CAN interface. The only problem from my standpoint is the box costs more than the motor and it wouldn't be portable to non CANBus equipment.
