Haven't torn into the column on our 8300 yet, but i did get a part explosion print from the dealer the other day...looks like there is no steel underneath the plastic other than the steering shaft itself (the shaft that turns). If there is a tube around it, your solution would work great. Also really like the looks of your Cat. Haven't tried the EZsteer on our 75B yet. Did have the lightbar in it this spring doing some tillage...really worked nice with a big field cult. Might try it this fall on the chisel with the EZsteer. Have to make a bracket for it, but it's an old GM style column, so it's all steel.
