Thunder Bay, Ontario, Great White North

This was the first year getting our haylage custom chopped, I'm now midway through doing our own corn but thats only cause I haven't got my FX chopper sold yet and a self propelled works better in corn than the pull type my custom guy has.
I switched to custom chopping because of labor issues and timeliness - got each of three cuts done in two days where we would have taken five with my own equipment. I have done a bit of a trade though - the guy that does my chopping gets me to do some of his mowing and all his merging for him, spreads out my equipment and labor a bit better too. Haven't got the bill yet but the fact I have good feed and it got done quick makes it easier to sign the cheque.
I also do a bunch of custom work for others - notill seeding, spraying and silage bagging. No one wants a big bill but some jobs I do it is impossible to charge enough.  It ain't all roses for the custom guy thats for sure.
