W.C. Mo.
I use an inline ripper as a zonetill then plant directly on the mounds. This corn lasted 10 -14 days longer than ground strictly notilled and most of my tillage neighbors. We have high clay content soils with terrible hardpans. I was building terraces on silage ground last week and 14 inches down I could see every rip mark ( approx 3 " wide) and solid corn roots going down this slit and into the surrounding ground. Normally in this kind of ground we are lucky to get corn roots 8-10 inches deep. We are dry land hill ground with no rain this summer. My short season corn is making 60-90 bu/a while my neighbors are talking 30 -50 bu tops.
