A young farmer almost has to work into a family operation but that isn't much different than it has always been. When I started the equipment cost was much less but I sold a lot of wheat for $1.25 or less. We feed all of our milo so I don't remimber what the market price of it was but it seems to me that we would buy it for around $2.00 a hwd. I didn't farm with horses but my dad always said that you planted half the farm to feed for the horses. If you figure the lost income from the ground that you grew the horse feed on plus the time involved to care for them that wasn't cheap either. As I get older I wonder where farming is headed and am not sure I like it but I really don't know if it is really any better or worse.
