| When we built the driveway to our bins we used 5/6" rock as the base, put a layer of 2" over that then capped the 2" with road pack. After using it for a yr we came back in and topped it with crushed rock. The 5/6 was a lot cheaper than 2" & is a better base IMO. Last year we put in a new shed that required a seperate driveway to be built. For that we used stone as a base instead of the 5/6. Takes less and it interlocks. We put it in about as thins as we could evenly spread it then put a layer of crushed rock over it after we had drove on it for a couple months. Total depth is less than 6" and will hold up a loaded semi during the spring thaw. Materials were about the same cost per ft as the other drive but we saved quite a bit on fuel as there wasn't nearly as much to haul. | |
