Subject: Re: Rolling up corn stalks or chopping silage

Macoupin county Illinois
i'm strugglin with this same decision, i'm not set up to feed silage at all. some fenceline and some H bunks on 2 different farms 4 and 5 miles away from the cornfields. I like garvo's idea of looking at this as an opportunity to get several years worth of cheap feed. Probably need to get it chopped and worry about the details later. nitrate content of round bales and the price of gluten feed next winter are the unknowns that concern me...well, for sure nitrates will be high and so will gluten feed price. unless i'm overlooking something this drouth corn will be cheap feed.
